5 Signs You're Ready for Your Next Big Trip

Sometimes the hardest part of planning a trip isn't the destination or the budget. It's giving yourself permission to actually go. If you've been circling the idea of something bigger, here are five signs it might be time.
1. The house feels a little quieter, and you're noticing it. Whether you're newly in your empty nest season or you've been there a while, that shift in pace often comes with a quiet realization: there's more room now for the trips you used to put off "until later." Later has a way of becoming now.
2. You keep bringing up the same destination. Alaska. Italy. That river cruise you saw a friend post about. If a place keeps resurfacing in your conversations, that's not a coincidence. That's your gut telling you something.

3. You're craving a trip that's actually about you. Not the family trip built around everyone else's preferences. Not the work trip disguised as travel. A trip where the only question is what you and the people you love actually want to do.
4. You've got a milestone worth marking. An anniversary, a birthday with a zero on the end, a retirement, or simply making it through a big year. Milestones don't have to be enormous to deserve a trip. Sometimes "we made it through" is reason enough.
5. You're already doing the research, even if you haven't admitted it. If you've got tabs open comparing cruise lines, or you've bookmarked a few resorts "just to look," that's usually a sign you're closer to ready than you think. The research is often the first quiet step toward booking.
If any of these sound familiar, I'd take it as a sign worth listening to. You don't have to have the whole trip figured out before you reach out. That's what I'm here for.
